About the Coalition

Mission: To insure that a fair and transparent process takes place under the Virginia Public – Private Transportation Act (PPTA), leading to an outcome that will best serve the interests of all the Port’s users, the supporting Virginia maritime industry, and the citizens of the Commonwealth.

Members & Supporters of the Coalition for Virginia’s Port:

For nearly one year our attention has been drawn towards maintaining Virginian control of our Port.
Our efforts were spirited by our inner knowledge that VIT was indeed “sustainable” and not just to maintain the “status quo”.

The Port’s customers, its community and our Virginia Legislators agreed that Virginians’ were those most capable to administer this port.

The VPA / VIT organization is now empowered to demonstrate to its port customers how effective they may be to advance “Virginia’s Port” in global trade.

We wish VIT/VPA well and expect they will succeed in their mission.

Because we have retained our Port, all of you should be proud to have accomplished such a grand outcome.

Thank you for your dedication to this cause.

Sincerely,

Ed O’Callaghan

The Coalition for Virginia’s Port is a league of business leaders and individuals who have organized to promote and preserve a fair and competitive business environment for all who use the Port of Virginia.

The Port of Virginia is one of the most important economic assets of the Commonwealth. It is an engine that drives the economy of the region and the state. Hundreds of thousands of citizens rely on it for jobs, and millions rely on it for commerce. No decision about its future should be rushed without the input of all stakeholders involved.

This is the largest privatization deal in Virginia’s history. The Commonwealth must exercise caution, due diligence and resist the temptation of a short-term financial payoff at the expense of the Port of Virginia’s long-term success.

Tell Governor McDonnell and the PPTA to slow down the process.
